Living with chronic pain can negatively impact your days. Every movement and activity slowly turns into a challenge. The spinal cord is involved in everything in your routine. Feeling discomfort not only keeps you from following your routine, but it also downgrades your quality of life. At The Painless Center, we understand the importance of making a speedy recovery with advanced treatments. Therefore, spinal cord stimulation can fit with your health requirements, and Dr. Chiu’s experience ensures you will get the best results with this nonsurgical procedure.

How Spinal Cord Stimulation Works

Spinal Cord Stimulation uses a device similar to a pacemaker to send electrical impulses into your epidural spaces. This stimulator switches the pain to a tickling sensation called paresthesia, or, depending on the stimulus, nothing. The process looks to deactivate your nerves and block the pain signals sent to your brain.

This medical procedure is a good option for patients who are looking for an improvement in their quality of life without risks from surgery. Also, an excellent benefit of the stimulation therapy is preventing opioid medication dependency.

Benefits of Stimulation

Most of our patients’ consultations for this treatment are related to:

The process offers you multiple advantages, such as:

  • Pain reduction in 50 to 80%
  • Better functionality daily
  • FDA approval with advanced technology
  • Customizable and reversible procedure
  • High bedtime quality
  • Minimally invasive

What Can I Expect Before, During, and After?

Before: Our staff will perform imaging studies and medical analysis. Then, according to your results, you can begin the trial phase to check if the temporal pulses support your pain handling. It’s essential to notice every secondary symptom or body reaction to continue with the permanent device.

You may be realizing you are a potential patient if you have been experiencing symptoms such as chronic pain in your back or neck, and the traditional treatments have not worked before. Another key factor is the nonsurgical method and high control over your pain.

During: Once you complete the trial phase and your body responds positively to the pulses, the procedure begins by implanting both the permanent stimulator and the electrodes using local anesthesia. The process usually lasts 30 to 90 minutes. You can be woken up and support the optimization of the pulses (you must experience and adjust the intensity that you will receive).

After implantation, your body has to adapt to the device. While this process is complete, tracking your progress is important to keep up with treatment. In the first days, it is normal to feel some sensitivity or swelling in the intervened area, but these symptoms disappear within a few days.

As you improve, the Painless Center team will be in touch with you to ensure the device is working correctly and providing you with high-pain relief. One of the biggest benefits after the procedure is complete is that it allows us to customize and adjust the stimulation according to your body’s response.
